How to prompt ChatGPT for your business

A simple prompting framework for local businesses that want better ChatGPT drafts, clearer plans, stronger customer replies, and more useful AI outputs.

The easiest way to get better results from ChatGPT is to stop giving it tiny, vague instructions. A useful business prompt gives context, a role, the task, constraints, and the output format.

Use this structure:

  1. Explain the business.
  2. Explain the customer.
  3. Give the task.
  4. Set rules or limits.
  5. Ask for a specific format.

For example:

We run a local plumbing business in Taree. Our customers are homeowners who need clear, practical advice. Write a short website section explaining emergency plumbing. Keep it friendly, avoid hype, and include three bullet points plus a call to action.

That prompt is better because it tells the AI who the business serves, what tone to use, and what the final answer should look like.

For business use, also ask ChatGPT to show assumptions. If it is drafting website copy, ask it to list what facts it needs from you before finalising the page. If it is making a plan, ask for risks and next steps.

Good prompting is not about tricks. It is about giving enough business context for the AI to produce something you can actually use.
